Papers of Zitella Cocke [manuscript], 1896, n.d.

In a letter to Henry Paret, 1896 June 8, Cocke discusses her inability to read his signature; " his misspelling of the name Cocke; her outrage at someone who is writing "doggerel" under the name Zitella Cooke and at the publisher of the magazine Chaperone for publishing one such poem entitled "The Seasons"; notes that she is a direct descenant of Captain Cocke mentioned in Pepy's Diary; and encloses copies of verses from her book "A Doric Reed. Cocke encloses seven poems for Paret's selection. In addition the papers contains six other poems by Cocke, two of which do not appear to be in her hand.
